I just read today that Matthew Bomer, star of "White Collar" (and up-coming beefcake fest "Magic Mike") casually outed himself as part of an award acceptance speech. He thanked his family, including his partner Simon and their kids. Way to go! Um, why don't I watch that show again?
In other Bomer news, apparently he's going to play the older brother of Darren Criss's character on Glee. Two of the hottest TV stars in the same episode . . . guess I'm gonna have to watch me some Glee.
Oh, and anyone know what band/song I'm referencing with the title of this post? Bonus points if you get it.
The sometimes confusing but always exciting journey toward finding my place in the world.

Playing with Matches
All of my correspondence with various people recently (YouTube guy, Mike from About.com, El Genio, various bloggers) has emboldened me to take a pretty scary step. I decided to upload photos onto the Match profile. I've gotten a number of "winks" and a few emails, but sadly not from many guys that I've found attractive. There was one guy who lives pretty close and is really good looking who messaged me, but unfortunately he didn't respond when I wrote him back. This dating website thing is frustrating! I've sent a few emails to guys in the hopes that they will respond. I really just want to try going out with a guy or two, to see what it's like. Hopefully it won't be too obvious that I'm a noob when it comes to dating (let alone dating guys, haha).
I had a video chat with YouTube guy last weekend, that was cool (webcam sound difficulties notwithstanding). We're both in the process of figuring ourselves out right now. He has aspirations to move to CA at some point, maybe he'll be a real life friend someday!

Doing alright
It's been a rather up and down week, but tonight I feel pretty good. This week I had really good conversations with not one but two amazingly attractive guys. Both straight, but it was just nice to make some new friends while recognizing the attraction I had for them. In addition, all of the conversations I've been having online (and in person) with gay and bi guys lately are definitely making me feel more comfortable.
Best yet, lately I've been feeling like there may be hope for me yet in the sexual realm. I don't know if it's the testosterone, my efforts to get rid of any lingering stigmas about sex in my psyche (e.g., I've been trying to see what all the fuss about this thing called "porn" is, haha), or increasing confidence, but I don't feel quite as asexual as I used to. Still not to horndog levels, and I'll probably never get there, but I'm just happy for what seems like an improvement. I even had another sexual dream within the last week, and this time it involved a guy. Guess my sleeping brain swings both ways.

I feel like I'm cheating
Dear Blog . . . I've been blogging elsewhere. I'm sorry, it's not you, it's me. It's just . . . what we've had, it's been really special but . . . when an opportunity comes along you just have to take it, you know? I hope you understand. I really do want to still update you. In fact, that's why I'm here. I just posted an entry over at the collaborative blog about an interesting New York Times article. But I felt bad not sharing it with you too. In the future, I think I will post more general interest items over there so they get more views. But with you, I'll share my more personal thoughts. How long can this last? I don't know. I'm just living for the moment. Good night.

Worth a try
No response from the Match guy, but I didn't really expect one. It probably would have helped if I had uploaded a picture, but I don't think I'm quite ready for that yet, haha. Reaching out was just a good exercise for me.
FYI, I was invited to contribute to another blog, Masc Bi/Gay Dudes. I will continue this blog as my more personal one for therapeutic benefit, and periodically post on that one as a way to hopefully help others who might come across it. For consistency, I changed my name on here to SCalRF (short for SoCalRockFan), which is my email address and my alias for the other website.

About a boy and his Guy
Occasionally I'll browse around the About.com "Gay Life" forums. They are full of questions from a lot of young guys confused about their sexuality, or anxious because they're in the closet. One day I came upon a thread that told the story of a guy named Mike who lives in LA. Apparently he always considered himself straight growing up. He dated girls, slept with girls, and didn't really think much about guys. That is, until he befriended a gay coworker at the bar he worked at. He developed an attraction for this guy, who he refers to in his story as Guy. The attraction ended up being mutual, and after a night during which Mike experienced his first time with a dude, the two became a couple.
The story is notable enough as is, but Mike's talent for writing enhances it considerably. He has a remarkable ability to make you feel almost like you're a fly on the wall. His forum posts read like a serialized short story. He goes on to describe the development of his relationship with Guy, including their Thanksgiving get-together with friends and his visit to Guy's family's house for New Years. The way he describes everyone, you almost feel like you know them.
Suffice it to say I was very entertained, and even touched, reading Mike's story (as many other people were). I've corresponded a bit with Mike, and even in his emails his talent for storytelling comes through.
If you're interested, here's the link to the thread (caution: it's a long one). http://forums.about.com/n/pfx/forum.aspx?tsn=1&nav=messages&webtag=ab-gaylife&tid=12160
