Hi all!
I'm in a pretty good mood right now. I had a first date with a new guy tonight and it went really well. We talked for three hours. He's really cute and nice (one of the most attractive guys I've gone out with), great sense of humor, smart, lives close by, and shares some interests with me. He also seems interested in me, as he was the one to make first contact afterward (he texted me to say he hopes we can hang out again sometime). I have a feeling this isn't the last time I'll be writing about him, so I'll assign him a name. Let's call him Nick. He's only been living in SoCal since the fall, so there's still a lot he has yet to do or see. Perhaps I can be the one to show him around? :-)

Serenade him with some songs, that's would be something special.
What I'm learning from dating is that words don't matter but actions do. For example, when someone says "let's meet" and then passively puts the responsibility of setting the date on you, he's not really interested. OTOH, when the opposite happens and a guy quickly texts you back after meeting or sets another time to meet right away...bam! he's definitely interested. Therefore, by all appearances, Nick is into you.
Because you have done most of the pursuing in your relationships, you might want to think about how proactive you want to be with Nick. I encourage you to think about human nature, especially among men. For whatever reason, we like the chase. If someone is too eager or too easy to "catch" then we tend to take them for granted or lose interest in them quickly. But the guys who tease us, flirt with us and then string us along are the ones we can't get enough of. There must be some evolutionary reason we act that way, but whatever, it's a fact. I suggest that you try to turn your usual relationship dynamic around and let Nick pursue you, but keep him on the line by flirting with him every second or third time you interact.
And by all means, DO serenade him, but wait at least a month. Let your charm build over time rather than risk overwhelming in the first few weeks.
Sounds like things are off to a good start. :-) Let's see where this goes!!
